Mobile services are the best valued by Spaniards consumers, compared with other utilities, but if you look to main reasons for dissatisfaction with services (percentage of households/individuals, IV Quarter 2023) it looks like pricing is the key, as Fixed Broadband, Mobile Internet and Mobile Telephony receive the worst valorations in terms of Service Quality! This morning, while driving, I had the chance to witness the majestic sunrise. This simple yet powerful event made me reflect on the invisible and fundamental connections that govern both the natural world and modern telecommunications. The sunrise, with its precision and consistency, is a reminder of how nature follows an orderly and predictable rhythm. Each dawn marks the beginning of a new day, bringing light and life to our surroundings. Similarly, the telecommunications sector has evolved to offer unwavering and predictable connectivity, driving our daily lives. Telecommunications networks operate in much the same way as natural cycles: they are designed to be reliable, secure, and omnipresent. From the moment we wake up and check our phones until we go to bed, we rely on an invisible but robust infrastructure that connects millions of people around the world. This infrastructure enables the transfer of data at the speed of light, much like the first rays of the sun travel to illuminate our day. In this context, the sunrise can be seen as a metaphor for modern telecommunications. Just as we trust the sun to rise each morning, we trust our communication networks to function without interruptions. This is made possible by the efforts of engineers and technologists who work tirelessly to maintain and improve these systems, ensuring connectivity is always at our fingertips. For those of us fortunate enough to work in telecommunications, we are blessed. We have the unique opportunity to contribute to something that profoundly impacts lives every day, connecting people across the globe and enabling countless possibilities, we are privileged to be a part of in this marvelous journey…

My Saturday Opinion article for IAM on the proposed EC SEP regulation. We still firmly believe the best course would be for the Commission to withdraw the regulation. But if it does press ahead, we have some suggested improvements to limit the damage and to safeguard the global open standards ecosystem that delivers such huge economic and societal benefits. How many times do you change a password and add a 1 or ! to the end? A lot of businesses and IT professionals think that a password policy enforcing users to have a minimum of 8 characters consisting of upper/lower case letters, numbers and special characters that needs to be changed every 30 - 90 days is effective. However, using a password manager to store and manage unique passwords consisting of three random words mixed with upper/lower case letters, numbers and special characters for every account a user has is a much more effective policy and allows a user to remember only one password! The following example would take an estimate of 24 years for hackers to crack: @PpL3-N£m0-peN Whereas the below example would take about an hour: ManUtD99! Don’t make it easy for cyber criminals! Today we launch our MVNO startup Nova that aims to break down the barriers that limited global connectivity for so long. Nova is an eSIM marketplace that allows users around the world to ‘roam like home’ in their target destination. We wanted to get rid of the hassle of extortionate roaming fees or having to look for WIFI hotspots. We have launched Nova with this aim in mind but above all else it’s to create experiences and allow the user to focus more on the travelling and less on the hassle of finding data. Users from day 1 of signing up are enrolled in our ‘Nova Miles’ loyalty programme, where when you activate your eSIM in your travel destination the app automatically works out to the distance travelled from point A to B of your journey giving you rewards as ‘Nova Miles’ the more miles you earn the more you can claim off of future eSIM plans in the future or alternatively you will be rewarded with these points to redeem on travel tech accessories.
